Impact of World War One:

1) Outbreak of war made Tsar popular. Wave of patriotism.

2) Defeats, casualties and dreadful condition of the army changed mood. Awful suffering on home front especially in St. Petersburg – cold, shortages, lack of fuel, prices up, etc.

3) Tsar took control of war and went to the Front miles from St Petersburg (now called Petrograd).
4) Tsar blamed for defeats.

5) Alexandra and Rasputin ran governments while Nicholas at front – very unpopular.

6) Murder of Rasputin at end of 1916.
7) Situation in Petrograd getting worse – weather very cold and Tsar took control of war and went to the Front miles from St Petersburg (now called Petrograd).
