1918 - Treaty of Brest Litovsk - Russian peace treaty with Germany.
March - Centre of government moved from Petrograd to Moscow.
May - Czech legion take over the Trans Siberian railway therefore aiding the whites
July - Tsar and family shot at Ekaterinburg
August - Lenin shot by Fanny Kaplan
- The Cheka respond with the terror -
200,000 killed in 5 years
- Whites capture Kazan only 650kms from Moscow
November - WW1 ends with German surrender

1918/19 - War Communism adopted to control industries and food supplies. Strikes made illegal.

1919 - Whites 300 km from Moscow and on outskirts of Petrograd.
October 1919 - Trotsky takes control of Petrograd’s defences

Most foreign troops leave Russia during the year.
The whites fight on alone.

1920 - Bolshevik support is weakening due to effects of famine and war.

1921 - Mutiny at Kronstadt .
Bolsheviks brutally put down risings.
Lenin announces
NEP
Stalin begins his ascent to power.
