Why did the provisional government fall from power so soon?

1) Continued war.
June offensive disaster. Continuing disaster on eastern front led to provisional government becoming less popular.

2) Shared power with the Soviet
The Soviets had control of the main cities undermined the provisional government.

3) Delayed it’s actions.
Failed to keep to promises of elections and land reform.

4) Lenin allowed to return from exile
Called for revolution in October.
When first returned made April Thesis - call for peace, bread and land which raised the Bolshevik profile.

5) Growing economic chaos.
High inflation, food shortages and no fuel for the cold winter. This led to a growth in the unpopularity of the provisional government.

6) Kornilov Revolt
This was an embarrassment for the government, raised the profile of the Bolsheviks.
